But I'm finally ready to say it.
After days and weeks of planning for it, I'm finally ready to announce what we have been focused on since day one, what we and all of you have prayed for continually, what we never expected to happen so soon...
Brenna is COMING HOME!!
Her discharge from the NICU is being planned for tomorrow afternoon, and we couldn't be more elated! We were originally told she would be in the NICU for "months"....and after just five and a half weeks, Brenna has defied all the odds against her and surpassed all of our expectations. It is without a doubt a true testament to the power of prayer and power of love! We are so grateful to God for his healing touch and for such a capable and compassionate medical staff at St. John's Hospital.
Though we know we have a huge road of challenges before us still, we are so consumed with the wonderful reality of having our family of four finally under one roof. God is so GOOD!
Oh I am so happy for y'all!!!!!! Love you guys!!!

ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of parenting a child with ichthyosis ~ we truly are a blessed, blessed group.
Hello-
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your beautiful baby! She is truly a gift from God. I heard about your story from a fellow mom and I wanted to offer my support to you. My son Caleb (18 mos) was born with a rare skin disease too. It is different than your daughters but a lot of the issues are similar. My son was born with a very severe case of LCMN or Giant Congential Nevi which caused him to be born with a large patch of premelanoma like skin covering 60% of his body. We were told he was healthy before his birth so this came as a huge shock for us. We were very scared and the first couple months were hard but now we are in such a peaceful place and are a happier family than most people who children with out medical issues. I would LOVE to hear from you and offer any support I can. Although its not the same disease I have been through something similar. I was also thinking that as our babies grow up they could maybe be friends are well or could support one another since we are in the same town. My husband is also a physican so he can also be a good person if you have questions. Take care and God Bless! I hope each day gets better and better. God Bless!! If you want you can email me at: bbjoachim@hotmail.com
Take Care- Bridget

While I know it must be nerve-wracking with so much responsibility ahead of you, it also has to be such an amazing prayer that has been answered. Enjoy every minute. ReplyDeleteFantastic news. I wish you all a wonderful homecoming. God's continued blessings.
ReplyDeleteDear Brenna's Parents,
ReplyDeleteI don't know you personally, but I sure hope I get to meet you at the Ichthyosis conference this year.
Also, this is probably 8 or 9 years premature, but send her to camp discovery (run by the american academy of dermatology) when she is old enough. It's a life saver and will show her that she is far from alone. http://www.campdiscovery.org/
Paula

ReplyDeleteOur family has followed Brennas' story since her birth. We are in awe of your strength and resolve . She truly is a miracle and is blessed to have you, your husband, and a strong family to support her. Her progress is remarkable .
ReplyDeleteThis week local parochial schools celebrated Catholic Schools Week . A week devoted to showing compassion, and giving thanks . Each day celebrates someone or some thing. Today was" Brennas' Day" at Blessed Sacrament School. The students were asked to continue to pray and bring in a small donation to help with medical expenses. Of all the lessons taught at BSS, these life lessons of helping others, are the ones they treasure the most. May God continue to bless you and always remember you are surrounded by friends ( never met ) that pray for your beautiful baby Brenna
