I told the dermatologist's office "you probably think I'm crazy."
I had made an appointment Monday morning for that afternoon, cancelled it around noon, and then called back at 3:00 with my mind changed yet again....all because Brenna's skin just seemed "different" to me.
So we went in and had her skin checked, and our dermatologist even took cultures of a few spots that seemed out of the ordinary.
Yesterday morning, I was so glad I decided to keep the appointment. The whole left side of Brenna's face had become bright red and inflamed to the point that it was causing her eye to sag a bit. And her poor skin was just so sore all over.
We had noticed an area around her left ear had been causing her pain for about a week, but it never really seemed to change much in appearance, so we just kept our eye on it. But the irritation never went away, so we wanted to have it checked.
Added to that, Brenna woke up with a cold on Saturday, and our pediatrician on Monday diagnosed an ear infection based on the amount of fluid that she could see in her canal. (Brenna's ear drums aren't usually visible due to skin build-up.) So poor thing hasn't had a fun few days.
Our dermatologist said the initial cultures of her skin look like staph, so we've begun an antibiotic treatment for that and we'll know for sure in a few days, once the cultures come back.
Even when we can't pinpoint exactly what it is, we know when her skin seems "different," there's usually an issue. And I'm glad that our dermatologist's office takes us seriously even when all we can claim is "her skin is different" and they understand we're not just being crazy :)
You are a wonderful mother who is constantly in tune with her children's needs. Good job, mom! So sorry Brenna girl isn't feeling all that great! Prayers for her and believing she will feel better asap!
ReplyDeleteYour dermatologist does exactly what all doctors should do, pay attention to the child's parents! You know your child better than anyone, so your knowledge is invaluable! I hope the poor baby feels better very soon.
ReplyDeleteBless her little heart. Hope she gets all better soon.
ReplyDeleteIsn't is great to have a Doctor who understands that Mother Knows Best.
Remember it is always best to err on the side of caution!! I firmly believe in mother's intuition.
