Well the good news is that Brenna's new ear doctor saw no sign of infection when she cleaned her ears on Thursday. So we have discontinued treating for an ear infection.
The bad news is that Brenna tested positive for both staph and strep bacteria on her skin. And it took all the way until Friday (after doing skin cultures on Monday) for the lab to verify what antibiotics those particular strains were sensitive to.
Fortunately the sensitivity was for the same antibiotic we started on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the antibiotics aren't having the same quick effect they've had in the past. Brenna's skin doesn't really seem much better, and there are several bad tears in her skin that have formed even since beginning treatment.
While the skin all over her body is different (there's that word again!), the splotchy and painful areas seem to be only around her head and neck, with a few open tears on her arms and armpits.
We're praying that the antibiotics start showing some improvements on her skin, and that she's not experiencing as much discomfort very very soon... Hopefully she can kick this pesky bacteria asap!
